Artwork Description
“The uncommon Spotted Turtle is distributed rather widely in wetlands across the eastern United States. The species is thought to have suffered about a 50% decline in recent decades, mostly due to habitat loss. It seems to be less adept at dispersing and colonizing new areas than most turtles and its populations are especially dependent on long-term survival of older adults. Included in the painting is a Tule Bluet, a common and widespread American damselfly”
