Artwork Description
The Alberta foothills are one of my favorite subjects to paint. I love the big skies and rolling hills that catch the light perfectly revealing the old glacial river beds. The foothills are at their most dramatic on those windy days when the shadows and highlights are constantly shifting . Golden fields are illuminated as the clouds roll by leaving the rest of the plains in shadow. I wanted to play with the contrast of the golden sky and fields with the purple mountain forms in this painting. I think overall it really captures a hot afternoon in the foothills.
