Artwork Description
Next to the old cathedral town of Dornoch, birthplace of Donald Ross, is one of the finest and most famous golf courses in the world. Golf has been played here for hundreds of years on the links land beside the cold North Sea waters. Organization as a golf club came in 1877 and it was not until the spring of 1886 that Tom Morris extended the course from nine to eighteen holes. His reported remark runs: “There canna be better gowf”; and seems to be the universal opinion of those who have tried them.
