Indian Rodeo Performer
Artwork Description
Rodeo came as a surprise to Jim. He had lived in Wyoming for two years before he attended one and only because a visiting friend wanted to see one. What he found excited him far more than he expected: the colors, the sport, the danger. Rodeo is more than simply an attempt to reenact the old West: it is a world created all on its own. “Three of my passions have always been sports, show business and the circus,” said Jim, “and rodeo is all three. It gave me a chance, as a painter, to use bright colors for a change instead of the muted browns which I found in most working cowboys. So I hung around the chutes and got to know the performers. They are very contemporary and any color goes: red, green purple, orange and blue.”
