Artwork Description
“In 1874, General George Armstrong Custer led an unapproved expedition into the Black Hills of what is South Dakota today. It resulted in a gold rush to the sacred hunting grounds of the Sioux. Because of this historical injustice, I wanted to emphasize the Sioux. The real story of this image is that they are being invaded. I used the warm late day light to bring out the area’s rich colors and textures.”
