A
fellowship of five artists, four painters and one stone carver,
drawn together by artistic commitment, mutual respect and
camaraderie explore the visual world together. Whether sailing the
Pacific Northwest's passages, riding horseback through the Alberta
foothills, hiking the mountain passes, or spending an evening of
spirited conversation on a terrace cafe, these artists share a
common focus. They celebrate their life through their art. Widely
diverse in style and subject matter, each has devoted their life to
art. Although the artists are strongly individualistic in their
approach to life and art, companionship is one of the primary
dynamics of the group.
The paths that have led
each artist to this fellowship are divergent. Their varied interests
include sports, sailing, music, literature, wilderness camping and
hiking, canoeing and travelling. They have journeyed extensively
throughout the world in search of inspiration and subject matter.
They have been involved in teaching and public workshops on a
variety of subjects from art techniques to the creative process.
They have raised families and contributed to their communities. The
enjoyment of life is the common thread that draws them together.
These five artists have enjoyed successful careers. Frequently their
art has been displayed at a variety of shows in Western Canada. As
well, they have done shows in Mexico, United States, Japan, England
and Australia. Their art is collected by individuals and
corporations around the world. The Western Lights Artist Group
stands out as being among the best.
